This article will explain how you can transfer your camcorder video tape to DVD. After this procedure you can even transfer the video on the DVD to your computer without the need for a TV card for editing.
What you will need.
1) A desktop stand alone DVD burner.
2) An AV cable (Audio Video cable that came with your camcorder).
3) A VCR (if transferring from VHS to DVD)
4) A standard Component cable (each end has a red, white and yellow rca connector).
How to convert High Definition, Standard Definition, and 8MM to DVD (If you are using a high definition camcorder the video will be converted to standard definition) please note that this will be recorded in real time.
(TIP: Use re-rightable also know as RW DVD’s, if you want to transfer the movies to you pc or laptop for editing. That way you can just record the clips to a single DVD, then erase the DVD and use it again for more clips.).
Insert your AV cable into your camcorder. Make sure the power cable is connected to the camcorder so you don’t waist the batteries and have constant power. Insert the Yellow RCA connector on the other side of the cable into the Video In of the stand alone DVD burner. Insert the single White (or Red on some cables) into the audio in of the DVD burner. (If the cable has both red and white rca connectors then connect the Red to Audio In R (right channel) and the white into Audio In L (left channel). Turn on the DVD burner and set it to record from Auxiliary Mode. Some models will detect the video and you will not have to set it to record from auxiliary.
Now go the camcorder and forward to the point that you want to start your video and press the pause key. When you are ready, press the record key on the DVD burner. When recording starts press the play key on the camcorder. Whenthe movie or movie clip has completed press the stop key on the DVD burner.Wait for the burner to finalize the DVD and you all all set. You can play the DVD on any DVD player or on any PC with a DVD Rom.
How to convert VHS Movies to DVD:
Please not that this will be recorded in real time.
If you are converting a VHS to DVD use a standard component cable. On the VCR insert the Yellow RCA connector in to the Video out of the VCR. Place the red into the Video Out R (right) of the VCR and the White RCA into the Audio Out L (Left) of the VCR. On the other end of the cable insert the Yellow RCA connector into the Video In of the stand alone DVD burner. Insert the Red to Audio In R (right channel) and the white into Audio In L (Left channel) of the DVD burner. Then complete the same steps as above by substituting the VCR for the camcorder.
Now that the movies or clips are on the disc you can now quickly and easily rip the movies from the DVD to your PC or laptop for editing with Windows Movie maker using DVD ripping software such as Quick DVD Copy.
